When I make hard boiled eggs, I always color them. "Why?" you ask. Well, I used to keep run of the mill boiled eggs in the fridge for a quick after school snack or quick breakfast for the family. When my son was about 12, he decided to put a few raw eggs in the bowl with the boiled ones. Of coarse, he laid in wait for his sister to get out a boiled(?) egg and break it open. You can imagine, the shriek, the mess and the wicked laughter happening in the kitchen. I have been coloring my boiled eggs ever since! I do it the lazy way by putting a little vinegar and food color in the water at the very end of the cooking time. All the eggs are the same color that way but I usually have green for St. Pattys Day, pink at valentines, ect. Even though I don't have to worry about a 12 yr. old boy pranking his sisters at home any more, the tradition lives on. It's festive!
Now when the grandkids come, I go all out and let them do the whole dye process, with lots of colors. It's something that I want to share with them and want them to remember about me.
